Abbreviated version of President Thomas McMillan's speech from our June 22nd Installation Dinner:
I originally wrote a 9 page speech about the excitement of becoming this club’s 21 st President for my second and 2/3 rd term -
I asked current President Michael to critique my original speech and his response was a big yawn. I then went back to the
drawing board and this is a much shorter version that I came up with.

Our little club that does is the envy of many clubs within our district. As foundation chair for the past 6 years, I am very proud
that our club has been a 100% Sustaining Member Club of Rotary International and also been an Every Rotarian Every Year Club
for several of those years. I pass this legacy onto incoming Foundation Chair Michael Adkins and challenge him to continue
this on and also to make our club a 100% Paul Harris Club. I recently met with the incoming presidents of the other two
Rotary clubs in Abbotsford – both other clubs are fascinated by our hands on projects – both clubs have expressed an interest in
being involved in any similar project we undertake. The Rotary Club of Abbotsford Sumas recently rejuvenated the gardens at
the Cottage Pavilion – the attached Worthington Pavilion gardens are in need of major repair – with help from both the other Rotary
Clubs in Abbotsford, we could possibly make this happen as a joint Rotary Project within this Rotary year.

For the club members that have already put their names forward to join various committees, I also thank you. We are a small club
with many committees – We encourage members to be on more than one committee. Try something you are unfamiliar with.
The Rotary Club of Abbotsford-Sumas is very important to me – John Funk invited me to come and learn about Rotary in 1997, I
joined the club soon after and have been exposed to so much. Every club member that I have met in the 19 years that I have
been a memer of this club continues to be a good friend. Every year, the Rotary Club of Abbotsford-Sumas raises the bar
in what the club expects to achieve and we have never missed that goal. I endeavor to continue with that challenge but along the
way, we also just want to have fun!
