2005 Strawberry Report

The Abbotsford Sumas Rotary club is also known as the Berry club. This year was our 10th anniversary of providing fresh, local berries ready to take home and make into wonderful jams and desserts. Our sale this year was another resounding success.
Our planning begins in September to prepare for the the following May/June sale. Each year we build upon the success of the previous year to get the berries to our clients as quickly and efficiently as we can. The Abbotsford pick up site is the busiest of our three pick up locations where we will help hundreds of people pick up over 1500 buckets of berries! This requires extensive planning and co-ordination and the collective effort of a great group of Rotarians.
Over the past 3 years, we have allocated much of the funds raised to building playgrounds in our community for children under the age of 6. Berry Park, Hoon Park, and John Mahoney park all have playgrounds built from this fundraiser. We will continue to partner with The City of Abbotsford to place playgrounds in our community and hope to do two more playgrounds this coming year.
We wish to thank all of the supporters of our sale who continue to purchase berries from us year after year. We also wish to thank our fellow Rotarians, Yale Interact club members and our community partners who generously donate their time and resourses. It is truly a team effort and we are looking forward to continued success in the 2006-2007 strawberry sale.
